The way you pay your internet marketer will change

There are some good things and some bad things that can come out of paying by the hour. But if you’re a visionary, I think it will rarely help you break through.

Sure, paying by the hour gets you to focus on priorities. But what about those great extra things that you can do to really stand out? What about those ideas your web designer or search marketer or email marketer come up with while they’re not “on the clock?”

Working on marketing and technology requires a relationship. I think this painful situation will end when marketers figure out new ways to bill for services. I’m on the side that argues that it’s all as much art as it is science. Locking down scopes and requirements will leave you in the dust by competitors that know how to give true incentives to people who can perform.

So maybe you shouldn’t be worried about priorities as much as performance.
